A true powerhouse that's often imitated but never duplicated, the PowerLine PSM144X Smith Machine combines the sophistication of free weight power and resistance with the safety and control of a machine. The unit is ideal for everything from squats to bench presses to shoulder shrugs, with PowerLine's patented Super-Glide carriage riding smoothly within the four 2-by-2-inch, 12-gauge steel pillars. Once you load on the weights, the bar lifts and lowers in a controlled manner, so you needn't worry about losing your balance during a lift or loading on more weight than you can handle. The machine also offers 14 lockout positions and adjustable safeties to guarantee the lifter's security while helping him or her strive for greater muscle gains. Other details include spotter extensions for when you're working out alone and a scratch- and rust-resistant, powder-coated finish. The Smith Machine measures 76 by 80 by 45 inches (W x H x D) and carries a 10-year warranty on the frame and a one-year warranty on all other parts.

Don't get lured by the price, this is a worthless piece of equipment.
- It shakes a lot, although material quality is fine, design suffers from weak construction geometry, it has few supports for the bar rails and it warps under stress.
- Left and right sides of the bar can move independently making it very hard to insert hooks into holes.
- There are few and small holes for hooks to insert when you want to release it, but it is too difficult to find them and insert hooks into them. You cant see and feel these holes, especially when you are working with heavy loads. The play in the frame also make this task even harder.
- There are two cross bars on the floor making placement of the bench stool difficult.

Not recommended.

very stable. hooks line up perfectly. great for bench / squats / shrugs -- 2009-03-11
i bought mine here at Amazon. I had it shipped ( all 3 boxes ) to my work, and loaded all 3 into my 2009 honda civic. at 6'6" long, it still made it home. If you take the time to lay out everything, and put washers with the bolts, then do the side rails, back and then the diamond floor plate, the chrome post, then the post with the spot holes, safties, then the bar, and tighten it all up. It took about an hour, start to finish. had to use a chair to hoist the bar up and onto the top rails..Everything lined up perfectly. I put 250 lbs on it and got 5 reps, without anywarmups..
If you take some car wax, and wax the posts, then polish it up, it glides even better. i feel its very heavy built. i do, ( or did ) use the smith machine at my health club, and this is close. ( of course, the health club version is $2,500, and is counterbalanced. )but other than that, it was a breeze. i can now squat, decline, flat, incline bench. I can set the safties up, and get in some narly shrugs. I even layed on mi back, and with safties in place, pushed the bar up with my feet. I dont feel i can break this machine. it will eventually do 300-500 lbs, and still be stable. Of course, i do place my plates into the provided weight posts on the 2 sides...that helps anchor everthing down, but the thing weights 170 lbs raw anyway...so i cant see anyone saying its not stable? and if the hooks dont line up, i think it was not installed right.
Mine is perfect. stable, smooth, rock solid, and typical Body Solid!

I am impressed with Amazon, they are A-mazing.
A sweet company, i have been doing bussiness with them for 2 years now.
Customer Service? I have never had to use that part! They are a 10 star company in my book!

This is not a good machine if you can lift any substantial amounts of weight. It's a little unstable. The hooks that lock into the holes so you can spot yourself don't always line up very well and that kind of sucks when you've just tired yourself out and you want to rack it but you can't...
